JOB DESCRIPTION

First Start Works Crew Trainee - Full Time

Position Objectives:

The position of Labourer (Works Crew) First Start Level 1 will be responsible to assist in undertaking the efficient and effective civil construction and maintenance projects (roads, drainage etc) that are being undertaken by Council. The role will predominantly involve labouring in construction activities in all areas of council under the direction of other staff.

Qualifications:

The following qualifications and licences are required: 

Mandatory

  • "C" Class Drivers Licence or Learners 

Desirable

  • Construction White Card 

Requirements:

The following requirements and working conditions are desired:

  • Ability to work as a team member and contribute to team outcomes.
  • Work within this area will involve manual labour and work in remote areas.
  • The Council Employee Code of Conduct applies to this position; 
  • Travel within the shire area will be required for this position and may require camping out for extended periods of time.

Key Selection Criteria:

The applicant’s suitability for this role will be assessed against the following competencies:

  • SC1: Demonstrated ability to undertake physical manual labour and examples of work environments where you have undertaken same;
  • SC2: Ability to work under direct supervision whilst exercising initiative, judgement and enthusiasm and maintain a high level of confidentiality in the workplace;
  • SC3: Demonstrated commitment to Workplace Health and Safety.
  • SC4: Excellent time management and effective organisational skills, with the ability to think laterally, work under pressure and achieve work deadlines in an environment of competing priorities.
