JOB DESCRIPTION

Diesel Fitter and Fabrication - Full Time

Position Objectives:

The Workshop and Plant Employee – Diesel Fitter & Fabrication role is responsible to assist the workshop in performing effective and reliable servicing, maintenance and repair of Councils vehicles, plant and equipment and constructing metal fabricated items in order to prolong the life and use of Councils assets and provide a quality return on investment. 

Qualifications:

The following qualifications and licences are desired:

Mandatory

  • Clear Australian Federal police check
  • Hold and maintain a “C” Class Manual drivers’ licence
  • Trade Certificate or Tradesperson Rights Certificate in Engineering Tradesperson (Mechanical) Level 1 or Diesel Fitter Certificate
  • Construction White Card

Desirable

  • Truck Licence
  • Plant operator competency certificates
  • Air-Conditioning Tickets
  • Welding qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of diagnostic equipment

Requirements:

The following requirements and working conditions are desired:

  • Internal training for specific areas relating to the position is required.
  • Physically fit to work with heavy machinery
  • Workshop environment and visits to field sites as required. 

Key Selection Criteria:

The applicant’s suitability for this role will be assessed against the following competencies:

  • KSC 1: Demonstrated experience in all aspects of general Diesel Fitting and Metal Fabrication including the ability to work effectively and efficiently unsupervised.
  • KSC 2: Sound written and verbal communication skills as well as a proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • KSC 3: Demonstrated experience working within a small team to achieve personal and team goals.
  • KSC 4: Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to safe working practices and willingness to undertake training in safe use of cleaning products including complying with Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • KSC 5: Excellent time management and effective organisational skills, with the ability to think laterally, work under pressure and achieve work deadlines in an environment of competing priorities.
