APPEA is the peak national body representing Australia’s upstream oil and gas exploration and production industry. Representing companies which account for approximately 90% of Australia’s petroleum production, APPEA’s purpose is to be the voice for the industry on issues that matter. APPEA seek to work collaboratively with both the industry and community towards a vision of energy for a better Australia.

Your new role
As APPEA’s Director for Queensland you will be responsible for leading advocacy and policy development for the industry within the state. Reporting into the CEO your duties will include:

  • Making APPEA a highly effective advocate for its members, ensuring recognition as the leading industry organisation on oil and gas issues
  • Establishing and maintaining an effective network of contacts in government, regulatory bodies, media and other critical stakeholder groups to influence development and implementation of energy policy and regulatory arrangements
  • Leading the Queensland team in effectively engaging with other industry groups to pursue common positions
  • Representing APPEA on external working groups and committees
  • Maintaining a trusted relationship with Queensland based members, identifying members’ requirements and attracting new members
  • Identification of potential issues for the APPEA through engagement with wider network

What you'll need to succeed

  • Significant experience in policy issues related to the Australia energy sector and the oil and gas industry in particular
  • Highly developed ability to analyse policy issues and recommend advocacy positions relevant to APPEA and its members
  • Understanding of the Queensland and national business policy environment
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing, maintaining and influencing a network of stakeholders including Government representatives
  • Strong presentation skills and experience addressing stakeholder groups
  • Experience working with senior industry leaders, Ministers and the media
  • Previous leadership experience in an industry association would be highly regarded
