About The Role

The Registered Nurse in Haemodialysis provides contemporary, evidence-based nursing services and demonstrates competence in the provision of nursing care as specified by achievement of the standards of practice and registration requirements from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). This is evidenced by educational preparation, continuing professional development, adhering to relevant legislation and the context of care.

About You

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Contemporary clinical knowledge in the area of Haemodialysis nursing, delivering competent nursing care in complex situations while providing support to other team members.
  • Ability to educate, inform, counsel and support patients and families on general and clinical information relevant to patient's care, accessing the Clinical Nurse when expert advice is required.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Ability to use or learn to use information systems appropriate to the position.
  • Ability to provide patient and family centred care to the patient using best practice and within the standard of practice of a Registered Nurse.
Ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.

Service Description

The West Moreton Kidney Service (WMKS) has transitioned from a satellite dialysis unit of the tertiary hub located at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) to an independent service. From 6th February2020, MINTS separated WMKS from MSHHS. A brief has been submitted to the DoH to request funding to expand kidney services within WMH to provide safe and efficient patient care for patient across the spectrum of kidney disease including inpatient acute dialysis

The WMKS comprises of the Ipswich Renal Dialysis Unit (IRDU); a PPP with St Andrews Hospital (STA); a Multidisciplinary Kidney Clinic; Kidney Supportive Care (KSC) service; pre-dialysis education; and soon to commence PD service. A Telehealth clinic is run by the Nephrologist and supported by the Nurse Navigator once a month in Gatton Hospital, every 2 months in Esk Hospital.

The unit has 12 stations, which includes 3 isolation rooms and 4 isolation bays for Hep C, MRSA, VRE and other MRO's. The unit operates from 0600 – 2300 Monday to Saturday. This currently provides a service for 52 patients needing haemodialysis. Currently, there are 15 dialysis machines, the Fresenius 5008. An additional 2 Nipro machines will soon be available in the unit. New patients to the unit must be accepted by the Unit Nephrologist and NUM.
