About HMO2 Recruitment

For 2022 we are recruiting HMO2's into the following streams:

  • HMO2 Critical Care: The Critical Care Stream is suitable for any candidates interested in ICU, Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine.
  • HMO2 General: Suitable for candidates looking for a broad base in hospital medicine, or those seeking to pursue a career in General Practice, or sub-specialties including: Psychiatry, Dermatology, Addiction Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • HMO2 Medical/BPT1: This stream is suitable for candidates looking to pursue a career in general or sub-specialty medicine. Specialty rotations include: Oncology, Haematology, Palliative Care, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatric Medicine, Rheumatology and Neurology.
  • HMO2 Surgical: This stream is useful for candidates seeking to pursue a career in general or sub-specialty surgery. Specialty rotations include: Orthopaedics, Surgical, Oncology, Plastics, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic, Vascular Surgery, Urology and ENT.

Please note that most HMO2's will have a roster which includes rotations outside our Fitzroy campus. These may include rotations at VCCC, Werribee, and Warrnambool Hospital.

About PMCV Computer Matching Process
All our HMO2 positions are subject to the state-wide Computer Matching process, conducted by the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV). All HMO2 posts are allocated in Victoria through this HMO2 Computer Matching Service. The rules for HMO2 eligibility and matching to all the hospitals in Victoria are governed by PMCV in conjunction with the Victorian Government funding body, Department of Health.

To be eligible for an HMO2 position in Victoria you must be either a graduate of an Australian or New Zealand University or holder of the AMC Certificate AND an Australian permanent resident. Refer to PMCV guidelines and website for full details.

Selection Procedures

  • Candidates applying to SVHM will be ranked on the basis of their written application, referee reports and personal interview.
  • SVHM will conduct 15-20 minute personal interviews with shortlisted candidates prior to making offers. Interview requests will be sent to shortlisted candidates by email.
  • Candidates will be interviewed by a panel including a clinician and HR representative. Please clearly outline your stream interests when applying, to assist us with planning your interview panel.
  • The Computer Matching process sorts the Hospital's ranking of candidates with the candidates' preference of Hospital.
