About The Role

The Clinical Nurse is a registered nurse who is accountable for clinical mental health practice at an advanced level. This role supports the delivery of services in the areas of assessment, intervention, treatment planning and evaluation to children and young people in the care of the Department of Child Safety Youth and Women with extreme and complex therapeutic and behaviour support needs; and to deliver training and education, supervision and research within the Evolve Therapeutic Support (ETS) Service.

The Clinical Nurse provides contemporary clinical leadership and care within a specific area supporting the general function of the unit through the application of best practice principles, education, leadership and portfolio management in the application and role modelling of professional nursing practice standards in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA).

About You

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrate high level clinical knowledge in childhood trauma, attachment theory, child development, collaborative practice and systemic theory, in order to provide specialised education programs and specialist mental health consultation to key stakeholders including professionals with internal and external government, non-government and private agencies, carer providers and families involved with children and young people in the care of Child Safety Services.
  • Coordinate and direct an interagency care plan using a developmentally informed collaborative model of care to address the therapeutic and behaviour support needs of the child or young person which identifies the roles and responsibilities of government, non-government and private sector service providers as appropriate.
  • Maintain the currency and high quality of professional practice knowledge, skills and expertise by actively contributing to and participating in professional development activities.
  • Provide high levels of initiative and responsibility in the identification, development and implementation of quality and service improvement activities that incorporate consumer and carer participation, contributing to a state-wide evidence-based model of service delivery.
  • Responsibility for collection and clinical application and compliance with the service evaluation and research requirements of the state-wide information development/documentation plan, Evolve Interagency Services, and local research initiatives.
Evolve Therapeutic Service

The Evolve Therapeutic Service is part of Evolve Interagency Services (Evolve), which is a state-wide service, cross government initiative. It provides mental health support, behavioural support and participation in education for children and young people in the care of Child Safety Services. The service is provided through coordinated sustainable partnerships between the Child Safety Services, Queensland Health, Disability Services and the Department of Education and Training.

Evolve is a multi-disciplinary, multi-specialist team providing specialist level clinical advice, consultancy and leadership to internal and external clients of Queensland Health including but not limited to Department of Communities, Child Safety, Department of Education and Disability Services management and staff.

The service aims to establish effective partnerships and joint planning at all levels of the mental health, child protection, education and disability sectors. The service contributes to the evidence base in the specialist mental health and child protection field, through research, conference presentations and publications.
