About Australian Red Cross Lifeblood
At Lifeblood, we’re here for all Australians. And although our life-giving role started over 90 years ago with blood, today we support more people in more ways than ever before.
We also help to facilitate the donation of tissue, organs, breast milk, and other life-giving biological products. Plus, we deliver world-class research and provide expertise in diagnostic, transplantation and other clinical services.
Everyone at Lifeblood is united through the power of humanity to build a healthier nation.

About the role
The successful applicant will work closely with other Medical Microbiologists, and other members of Clinical Services and Research, including the Donor and Product Safety Unit, Medical Services, and Manufacturing including Testing and Scientific & Technical Services. The role involves pathology oversight of the testing laboratories, provision of clinical advice about donor care, infection prevention advice about issues in donation and manufacturing facilities, input into horizon scanning and assessment of emerging infectious diseases of concern to transfusion, and policy development and process review. There is no on-call/after-hours roster with the role.

It is an exciting time for Lifeblood with the maturation of its Microbiology service, and with introduction of new laboratory technologies in serology and nucleic acid testing, as well as the dynamism of emerging and current infectious diseases issues for transfusion medicine. Lifeblood’s Microbiologists have input into the new enterprises of Lifeblood Milk and Lifeblood Microbiome (FMT).

There are many opportunities for research concerning infectious diseases issues in transfusion medicine and also teaching. Lifeblood has active Research & Development and Transfusion Policy & Education divisions.
