Our Townsville business is one of the Region’s most significant transport and tourism operations with a fleet of 4 vessels and 75 staff.

About the Role

SeaLink is seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Manager to support our passenger ferry operations and manage our Workshop team. You will have hands-on experience maintaining vessels, be pragmatic, highly organized, and able to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance outcomes.

Your focus will be leading, prioritizing, and coordinating maintenance activities to deliver on our commitment to health and safety, eliminate unplanned downtime, and effectively manage operational costs.

Maintenance activities will be centered on the planning and coordination of proactive preventative/corrective maintenance tasks in addition to effectively managing all emergent work, including troubleshooting, diagnosing, and rectifying engineering issues throughout the fleet. The Workshop team of four also provides breakdown support out of hours.

The position reports to the General Manager and supports the business in the delivery of short and long-term goals and objectives, maintains annual budgets for the department, works cohesively with all departments, manages outside contractors, and provides accurate administrative reporting and maintenance records.

About You

  • Previous leadership experience supervising a team in the safe delivery of maintenance tasks.
  • A strong work ethic and ability to lead by example.
  • Committed to improving maintenance systems and planning to improve reliability and longevity of assets, plant, and equipment.
  • Proactively develops preventative maintenance programs and addresses defects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Develops and fosters a culture of compliance and continuous improvement and brings technical rigor and best practice to maintaining company assets.
  • Significant experience and technical knowledge of defect and fault-finding skills rectification within the maritime industry or relevant experience.
  • Develops rapport and builds relationships both internally and externally.
  • Achievement and results-driven.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A high degree of computer literacy including the use of Microsoft software and maintenance programs/systems.

To be successful you must possess/have experience in:

  • Minimum 3 years maintenance management & planning experience.
  • Extensive experience managing operational maintenance budgets.
  • Hold a trade qualification; diesel fitter, mechanical, electrical, or relevant trade/industry qualification. MED 1 or higher marine qualification (desirable)
  • Sound knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and air conditioning systems.
  • Working knowledge of the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV)
  • A current unrestricted motor vehicle drivers' license.
  • Senior First Aid
  • Working within confined spaces ticket (preferred)
  • Working at heights ticket (preferred)
