JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Attractive hourly rates between $39.00 - $42.55 per hour
  • Specialised training
  • Career development opportunities

The IFYS Child Protection Residential Care Programs support children and young people needing a placement different from family-based care. Our aim is to provide a safe, dependable, and nurturing living environment for these young people. Reporting to the Case Manager, Residential Youth Workers deliver the day-to-day care and support to these young people in the Residential Care house.

A day in the role of a Residential Youth Worker will include:

  • Planning and attending activities or appointments with young people in line with the needs and goals outlined in their Case plans.
  • Supporting and managing young people's behaviours in line with Action Behaviour support plans in a consistent and calm manner.
  • Use daily routines to provide hands-on training of life skills such as cooking, personal care and budgeting.
  • Working with young people to maintain hygiene and cleanliness of the house.
  • Completing daily case notes, admin tasks and incident reports in line with legislative requirements.

These programs are a 24/7 environment. This means there is a high level of shift work involved including sleepovers, weekends, and possibly awake shifts. To be successful in this role, candidates must have the ability to work some of these shifts.

About you

With no two days ever being the same for a Residential Youth Worker, the ideal person for this role would be flexible, adaptable and open to learning. Working with young people displaying highly complex and challenging behaviour require you to build rapport quickly and remain non-judgemental. This is a highly legislated environment with multiple policies and procedures to follow. This requires a person who understands the importance of teamwork and can communicate effectively. Although not essential, candidates with transferrable skills from working with vulnerable people who display challenging behaviours are strongly encouraged to apply.

We also require workers to have or be able to obtain prior to commencement:

  • A paid Blue Card or have applied for one (please refer to info below in regards to No Card, No Start laws)
  • Child Safety Personal History Check (LCS2)
  • National Crime Check
  • Current valid driver's license (Green provisional plates or higher)
  • Already hold or are enrolled in a Certificate IV or higher in a relevant field prior to commencing work.

Information on Blue Cards; No Card, No Start

The No Card, No Start law, now means you will have to already have a paid Blue Card prior to commencing work with young people. To comply with these new laws, if you do not currently have a paid Blue Card or it expires in the next three months, you will be asked to apply for one before progressing to an interview.
