Full Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and capable individual to join our team in a temporary full-time capacity. In this role, you will contribute to the efficient and effective operations of our school by providing a high level of facilities care and support to the Head of Campus or nominated delegate. You will perform a range of activities to ensure that the newly constructed education facility is maintained to a high standard, follow set instructions and have independence to perform a variety of day-to-day services that are routine in nature. This is a short term contract created to assist the Head of Campus with the establishment of the new education facility. Hours of duty are negotiable.

About West Moreton Education and Training Centre

The West Moreton Youth Education and Training Centre is a Department of Education school operating inside the West Moreton Youth Detention Centre at Wacol.

The West Moreton Education and Training Centre (WMETC) is a co-educational school which delivers educational programs for up to 32 remanded and sentenced young people at the West Moreton Youth Detention Centre located in Wacol.

WMETC is a stand-alone campus of the Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC). The centre operates on a 1:4 teacher student ratio delivers a predominantly vocational curriculum.

Construction of the educational facilities are nearing completion and include purpose-built classrooms, a multi-purpose court and specialist program facilities.

Your Role

As the Schools Officer, Facilities you will have responsibility for but not limited to the following:

Responsible for a range of day to day activities that may include delivering and collecting mail, parcels and documents; recording and delivering of messages; printing and photocopying; preparing classrooms for examinations and preparing activity/assembly halls, including moving/arranging furniture and seating; removing and relocating furniture from room to room; general store duties including receipting, opening up, checking, storing and distributing school supplies and stocks; maintaining various registers; and stocktaking and recording/engraving of school equipment/furniture and assets.
Assist with a range of duties that include clearing and hosing of drains and gutters; collection of waste, food and paper on school grounds as agreed by relevant staff and the Principal, Business Manager and/or nominated delegate; undertaking immediate action cleaning duties (outside the normal operating hours of the school's cleaning staff); assist with requirements for significant events such as fetes, plays and major sporting events.
Support with a variety of security duties at the school that involve using and maintaining the school security systems; banking of school funds (this does not refer to the collection, receipt, or reconciliation of funds, but rather to the transport and deposition of funds at the appropriate bank institution); and locking and unlocking buildings (within core hours).
Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements including maintenance of a safe work environment; bring to appropriate attention any safety hazards; manage equipment records; and maintain tools and equipment for repair services (as per manufacturer's service manual).

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.

This is a OO2 progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the OO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the OO3 level (as per QLD Public Service Award 2015) once specific criteria have been met. Salary rate shown is reflective of OO2 to OO3 classification range.
