Working within the Biosecurity Queensland National Red Imported Fire Ant Program, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team. This role will include the planning, directing, and coordination of compliance and coordination of surveillance, treatment and general field operational activities for the program.

Key tasks and responsibilities of the role (your contribution)

  • Lead the operational activities of a multidisciplinary team administering legislation, strategies, policy and procedures to a high standard of excellence. Develop, implement, report on and review evidence-based compliance strategies and plans for the program
  • Plan and undertake high-level compliance investigations and projects including overseeing and undertaking tasks as a designated officer appointed to exercise statutory powers under legislation
  • Manage both technical and non-technical staff and subordinate team leaders (permanent, temporary & contract) including work allocations against the relevant operational plan. This includes mentoring, developing and managing subordinate's performance and development under HR policy, leave, recruitment, workplace health and safety
  • Plan, oversee and report on management of operational activities for assigned area / portfolio / program in terms of output, financial sustainability, timeframes and labour requirements. Adjust processes and resource allocations to minimise costs while achieving required quantitative and qualitative outcomes - Manage outputs and operational quality through development and periodic updating of standard operating procedures within the operational area with due regard to foreseeable impacts to other business units
  • Represent the Program on relevant committees (e.g. Safety Committee) and work collaboratively with colleagues and representatives of other levels of government, industry and community organisations to achieve immediate and strategic operational outcomes
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of reports, submissions, briefing notes, presentations, and correspondence for consideration by executive management, including responses to ministerial queries
  • Lead and support their team in establishing and maintaining a positive profile with internal and external clients and stakeholders as applicable
