About the program

Wellways Australia is the first point of contact for all Australian Government Carer Gateway funded services across Queensland, aiming to help carers access practical information and advice and connect with services in their local area. Carer supports and services will be delivered using a network of local Carer Gateway regional service providers Carers and those who provide a caring role to someone in their life who has a disability, mental health issue, chronic health condition, terminal illness or are frail/aged.

About the role

A truly special role where your communications skills are paramount. Our Young Carer Support Worker position is an integral part of the delivery of the Carer Gateway services program. This newly created role is responsible for identifying and delivering appropriate support to Young Carers across Queensland.

Key responsibilities include, however, are not limited to:
Identifying Young Carers in the community and raising awareness about their caring role
Providing information, referral, and support to Young Carers
Promote awareness of Carer Gateway supports to service providers including through the education system and other youth focussed organisations
Support Young Carers with a high level of customer service ensuring Carers are listened to with patience and non-judgement
Identify Young carers needs and refer them to the appropriate source, including to the In-Person Peer Support Program

Skills & Experience:
Qualifications and/or experience working in Youth Programs, Youth community services, allied health or carer/family peer positions
Experience coordinating responsive individualised support to individuals, families, young people and children with caring roles
Ability to work well under pressure

Pre-employment requirements:
Evidence of working rights within Australia such as a passport or birth certificate
Minimum Cert IV in Youth work, Community Services or similar
National Police Records Check
Blue Card
Yellow Card/NDIS Workers Screening Check
NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate: https://www.ndiscommission.gov.au/workers/support-for-workers/training-course
