The Regional Safety & Risk Team plays a key role in influencing positive organisational change within Queensland Rail, creating a culture that takes a holistic and integrated approach to the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of risk-based management strategies.

We are looking for an experienced leader with exceptional interpersonal skills and strong stakeholder engagement capabilities. Your demonstrated experiencing in the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of contemporary assurance and governance management strategies, including an appropriate due diligence framework, will position you as an ideal candidate.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Regional Safety & Risk, you will be accustomed to dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders ideally in a Rail environment and will be responsible for ensuring the alignment of assurance activities with key business priorities and risks and coordinating internal and external assurance providers in line with governance strategies.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Establish and oversee the Integrated Assurance Plan for the Regional Business In consultation with Regional Leaders.
  • Provide assurance tools, advice and services to Regional managers to support compliance with all mandatory legislative requirements through accurate due diligence reporting, monitoring and review processes.
  • Liaise with Corporate Assurance function and SEQ Assurance service providers to enable the Regional Business to identify, Implement and coordinate key compliance and governance management controls and establish the necessary documents required to validate the level of compliance across the business unit.
  • Oversee and coordinate the compliance attestation process on behalf of the Regional Business.
  • Lead the development, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of an appropriate compliance and governance management framework and provide assurance to the Management Teams and key stakeholders of compliance within that framework.
  • Provide the Management Team of the Regional Business with a whole of business assessment of key compliance and operational exposures and the effectiveness of associated management activities.
  • Provide value adding compliance and consulting advice, analysis and support to enable senior managers to identify and manage key compliance relevant to the operational performance of the business.
  • Support senior business managers in discharging their obligations for implementing and monitoring appropriate compliance and management governance principles and controls.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Queensland Rail Senior Managers, operational staff and stakeholders to build a sound understanding of the information and advice required to make risk-based business decisions and implement an integrated compliance and management culture.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary risk management and governance principles and practice and their practical application, in strategic, commercial and operational context, within a large infrastructure driven business.
  • Extensive experience in developing, implementing and maintaining the continuous enhancement of a compliance and risk-based management strategy and governance framework that is consistent with promoting accountability and a commercially centric culture.
  • High level of conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in relation to the identification and evaluation of commercial and operational information and in using this information to proactively provide advice to senior management to enable them to make risk-based business decisions.
  • High level of skill as a key contributor in a dynamic, high performing work environment that is results orientated and demonstrates core organisational values of leadership, customer focus, initiative, independent judgement, creativity and innovation, respect for people in all actions and safety and environment.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills to clearly communicate key risk management and assurance principles and practices that balance corporate obligations with strategic business objectives.
  • Negotiate practical, commercially focused and sustainable outcomes that assist in the achievement of strategic business objectives and develop sustainable business relationships
  • Solid leadership and emotional intelligence skills with demonstrated ability to engage others, to understand and embrace organisational culture, to set the right pace of change.

Position description

The position is based in Brisbane CBD with occasional Intrastate travel and the salary will be commensurate with the preferred candidates experience and suitability. Salary details will only be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
