The Australasian Kidney Trials Network (AKTN)

The Australasian Kidney Trials Network (AKTN) is a unit of the School of Medicine’s Centre for Kidney Disease Research at the University of Queensland, and is located at the Princess Alexandra Hospital campus, Woolloongabba. The AKTN was developed to deliver high quality clinical trials to improve the health and wellbeing of people with kidney disease. This collaborative research group engages with consumers of research, nephrologists, renal and research nurses, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and other allied health professionals to design, conduct and support clinical trials focussed on improving appropriate patient-centred outcomes.

About this opportunity

Fantastic opportunity to work with a collaborative research group and undertake central coordination tasks for clinical research related to Kidney Disease through the Australasian Kidney Trials Network.

As a Clinical Research Associate you will contribute to the design and protocol development of investigator initiated clinical research and other duties and responsibilities including, but are not limited to:

  • Assess feasibility and engage Australian, New Zealand and other international kidney units in recruiting for AKTN research projects.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of strategies designed to maintain and enhance recruitment to AKTN research projects.
  • Assess compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) at trial sites through review of site documentation, data review and on-site visits at kidney units across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Act as the key liaison between participating site Investigators and the Trial Steering Committee, as well as a convener of various trial committee meetings.
  • Represent the AKTN at local, national and occasionally international forums on kidney disease and clinical trial conduct.

This position is located at the PA Hospital campus in Woolloongabba, South Brisbane and reports to the Clinical Project Manager.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

Our ideal candidate

We are seeking candidates with qualifications (scientific or nursing discipline) with at least four years subsequent relevant experience. Additionally, you will also demonstrate:

  • Substantial practical experience in the coordination of research projects, including site coordination and quality control, and the development of project plans and timelines.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Willingness to travel interstate and internationally, with overnight stays (approx. twice per month, but only if safe to do so within current COVID restrictions)
  • Experience with grant proposal writing and submissions.

What we can offer

This is a 12 month full time, fixed-term position at HEW Level 7.

The full-time base salary will be in the range of $88,763.14 - $96,783.71, plus super of up to 17% (the total package will be in the range of $103,852.88 – 113,236.94).
