Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science is one of the largest and most diverse Faculties within The University of Queensland and within Science Faculties across Australia. The Faculty of Science incorporates six schools and four research centres. The units within the Faculty are internationally recognised and their teaching and research successes create a stimulating environment within which the Faculty staff work. The Faculty is managed by the Executive Dean, who has direct responsibility for the physical, financial and human resources, academic matters relating to programs and students, and a range of other areas such as the development of research, national and international marketing, and enhanced government, business and community links.

About This Opportunity

This is a newly-created position that will be responsible for providing coordination and management of the Faculty of Science facilities services. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing facilities services in consultation with the Schools and Gatton Campus to ensure effective support to Faculty teaching and research programs.
  • Supporting the development of proactive asset management and equipment replacement plans, as well as coordinating the annual asset stocktake.
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring a high level of client focus from the team at all times.
  • Liaising with the relevant infrastructure Planning Business Partner on capital projects and participating as required subsequent project control groups in relation to construction.
  • Leading and managing a small Facilities Services team.
  • Lead liaison with the Property and Facilities, Client Facilities staff

This position will also provide higher level, dedicated facilities management support to the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences (SCMB). This is due to its complex facilities and will be supported by local Facilities Officer. Key responsibilities to support SCMB will include:

  • Developing and overseeing a program of planned upgrades to physical spaces (minor works) and standard School-supplied equipment.
  • Overseeing and continuously improving systems bespoke to the School.
  • Being the member-secretary of the School’s Space & Facilities Management Committee, researching and drafting agenda items and producing meeting minutes/actions.
  • Assisting the chairperson and Head of School with complex space allocation and planning.
  • Assisting the School Manager with budget planning, forecasting and income-expenditure monitoring for infrastructure accounts.

Whilst this position will be physically based in SCMB (located at our picturesque St Lucia campus), you will be expected to be visible across all schools, including approximately once a fortnight at our Gatton campus.

Our Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this appointment, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications ideally in the biological or chemical sciences, or facilities management, or other related field.
  • At least four years relevant experience in facilities services.
  • The ability to lead a team and embed a values-based culture of continuous improvement, service innovation and managing change.
  • Skills in implementing policies and procedures.
  • High level interpersonal, time management, and attention to detail skills.

Experience managing a scientific research facility or experience in higher education is advantageous but not essential.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW level 7.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,763 - $96,783, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $103,852 - $113,236.
