Full Job Description
The role of Literacy and Numeracy Teacher is part of the QED FNQ Regional Youth Engagement Strategy. In this role you will work with youth who are seeking to develop their literacy and numeracy skills. Youth will be both compulsory school age and post compulsory age. You will be required to work with other agencies, including Youth Justice to design and co-deliver programs. These programs will focus on supporting students that have a range of needs from social/emotional, learning/academic, attendance and disability specific needs such as hearing impairment and specific reading disabilities. The anticipated outcome of the programs is to prepare young people to successfully transition back to school or into a training or employment pathway.

Applicants will have knowledge of Positive Behaviour for Learning and Essential Skills for Classroom Management and demonstrate highly developed, culturally appropriate relational skills with young people, families, other government organisations and the broader community, to achieve positive outcomes. The ability to demonstrate effective high yield teaching strategies, coaching and case management is essential.

Applicants will have a personal and professional interest in using and collaboratively developing best practice systems and processes to underpin their work in supporting schools, agency partners and students.

The ideal applicant will have the following capabilities and experienece:

Knowledge of Positive Behaviour for Learning and Essential Skills for Classroom Management and demonstrate highly developed, culturally appropriate relational skills with young people, families, other government organisations and the broader community, to achieve positive outcomes.
Ability to demonstrate effective high yield teaching strategies, coaching and case management.
Experience or a willingness to learn about specific reading disability interventions and literacy prerequisites into a range of pathways is essential for this role.
