The Role
Communications Security (COMSEC) staff are responsible for the receipt, custody, handling, accounting, distribution, safeguarding and destruction of all COMSEC material held on charge. The COMSEC account is required to be maintained in accordance with policy issued by Defence Cryptographic Controlling Authority (DCCA) and Australian Signals Directorate (ASD). COMSEC personnel are required to engage with relevant stakeholders to identify expectations and concerns and develop a clear understanding of the issues to achieve outcomes. This includes ships undertaking border protection activities and other Defence Operations. This positon also provides adhoc support to visiting warships and ships undergoing refit in Cairns.

About our Team
The Navy Information Warfare Force, delivers Intelligence, communications, Command and Control (C2), Cyber and Information Operations capabilities to Fleet units.

The APS3 Information and Records Management Officer will be the Assistant Communications Security (COMSEC) Custodian Officer (ACAM) for Fleet Command’s Minor War Vessels based out of Cairns and Darwin. The APS 3 (ACAM) assists the APS 4 (CAM) who is responsible for providing support to Fleet management of custody and security of Communication Security (COMSEC), Accountable Classified Cryptographic Material ACCM), on issue from Fleet Head Quarters (FHQ).

Our ideal candidate it would be desirable to have some if not all of the following Qualifications, Experience or Training:

Current knowledge and recent work history or experience and qualifications in Defence Communications Security (COMSEC) Services.
Current or recent experience and qualifications with relevant Defence hardware and software utilised within the (COMSEC) facility
Strong written communications skills
Understand and implement information and records management policies and procedures to physical and electronic record in use within COMSEC
Have the ability to continually improve the delivery of COMSEC services to the end user through changing and adapting processes
Initiative and experience to analyse, plan, review and adjust priorities and work activities to meet business outcomes
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
Work collaboratively and operate as an effective team member
Seek advice and guidance on more complex issues
