JOB DESCRIPTION


Senior Child Safety Officers - Youth Justice Liaison (SCSO – YJL) are responsible for ensuring the safety, belonging and wellbeing of all children and young people subject to Child Safety and Youth Justice intervention.

The SCSO - YJL is responsible for coordinating the delivery of statutory child protection services, in conjunction with the Child Safety Service Centre (CSSC) that has case management responsibility, to young people entering, within and/or exiting youth detention centres, along with delivering services in accordance with legislation, practice guidelines and a strength-based framework for practice.

The SCSO - YJL will also be required to collaborate with Child Safety and Youth Justice staff across Queensland to facilitate information sharing processes that support the delivery of culturally sensitive practice and collaborative management.

  • Deliver accountable and collaborative integrated child protection services for young people subject to Child Safety and Youth Justice interventions in a manner that respects the culture and context of each child, young person, family and community in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, statutory responsibilities, and the child protection framework for practice.
  • Work collaboratively with Child Safety and Youth Justice colleagues, stakeholders, including children, young people and their families, NGOs, service providers, medical professionals, police and others to provide high quality strength based child protection practice to young people subject to Child Safety and Youth Justice interventions.
  • Participate and contribute productively as a team member to form culturally appropriate, professional working relationships with Child Safety and Youth Justice colleagues, stakeholders, including children, young people and families, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), and other service providers.
  • Foster a culture and philosophy of quality frontline service delivery based on collaboration, cooperation, commitment to excellence and professional ethics.
  • Maintain high quality case records in accordance with departmental case management requirements and prepare quality case management reports
  • Participate and contribute to a culture of continuous learning, training and professional development to ensure practice knowledge and skills are contemporary and evidence based.
  • Work independently and draw on professional practice experience in relevant child protection fields to provide support and advice to assist CSSC staff and Youth Detention staff provide quality practice.
