Job Description

Bwgcolman Community School is currently accepting application for a Head of Department (Curriculum) to educate and influence children within the remote community and surrounds of Palm Island. The successful applicant will ideally have a deep knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands history and culture and be able to work closely with the community and children of Palm Island and engage in high expectations relationships. The successful applicant will have access to departmental funded removals/relocation expenses and accommodation upon appointment.

About the school

Bwgcolman Community School is a Kindy-12 school located on tropical Palm Island, 65km north-west of Townsville in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Bwgcolman Community School currently has 320 students spread across 14 classes. About the role

As the Head of Department (Curriculum) you will have responsibility for the following:

  • Lead the relevant curriculum areas or whole school program to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
  • Be futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
  • Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the curriculum areas or whole school program to achieve goals.

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
  • Teachers working in Education and Care Services (including State Delivered Kindergarten programs) require an exemption card issued by Blue Card Services.
