The role

Normanton is a small community situated on the banks of the Norman River in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Fishing and prawning industries are the mainstay of the area, along with tourism. The Traditional Owners of the Normanton area are the Gkuthaarn, Kukatj, and Kurtijar peoples. Normanton is accessible via a network of sealed and unsealed roads. Some roads may be closed during the wet season between December and March. A sealed airstrip provides year round access to the community.

Normanton Hospital is a level two (2) hospital under the Rural and Remote Clinical Services Capability Framework with 16 inpatient beds and the capacity to provide respite/palliative care services. The facility provides 24 hour acute inpatient and accident and emergency care. Outpatient services include general outpatients, nurse and medical led clinics, radiology, pathology, pharmacy and dressing clinics.

Your primary role will be as the sole doctor will be providing clinical care for the community. As such you will be seeing patients in three [3] clinical settings: firstly, in a primary care clinic; secondly in the Emergency Department; and thirdly as in-patients on the ward.

Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences. Pre-employment screening, including criminal history checks and Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role compliance, will be conducted for the successful candidate.
