The Victorian Government announced that St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne has been selected to operate one of the State's new high-volume COVID-19 Vaccination Centres as part of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program. St Vincent's has been at the front line of the State's COVID-19 response since early 2020. Now, with the commencement of the vaccination program, St Vincent's has the opportunity once again to play a leadership role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

About the Covid19 Vaccination Program

The COVID-19 Vaccination Program at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne is being run in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), to provide the approved COVID-19 Vaccine to St Vincent's Hospital employees and the community in the North East Region of Melbourne

About the Role

We are currently seeking a number of Pharmacists to provide support and expertise to the vaccinations program at St Vincent's Hospital staff and community clients, as well as oversee and participate in the drawing up and preparation of COVID vaccine doses. This role may involve organising and enabling the smooth coordination of vaccine syringe preparation, general clinic flow duties and ensuring compliance with the recommended administration process.

This is a 6-month fixed term part-time position on a rotating roster. You may be required to work in different locations depending on your availability and business requirements.

The COVID Vaccination Pharmacy Team work predominantly in two shifts - 700-1545 and 1215-2100 (including break times), the clinic is open from Monday - Sunday.

Classification and remuneration for this position will be assessed on an individual basis in line with the relevant award, determined by years of relevant experience and relevant qualifications and/ or certificates.

The Duties may include (but not limited to):

  • Oversight of the vaccine preparation team which may include non pharmacy staff
  • Vaccine syringe preparation
  • Labelling of vaccine syringes
  • Recording of all vaccine transactions
  • Transporting vaccines from Pharmacy base to the clinic
  • Vaccine cold chain management
  • Ensuring good manufacturing practices are maintained
  • Meeting all required legislative compliance requirements
  • Additional responsibilities as specified by the Senior clinical pharmacist, deputy chief pharmacist or chief pharmacist

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia
  • Exhibit excellence in pharmaceutical practice skills
  • Flexibility to work in all sections of the pharmacy department according to St Vincent's Policies
  • Ability to work as an experienced member of a multidisciplinary team in relation to St Vincent's Patient Care Model
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Successful completion of approved COVID vaccination training package (this can be completed following successful employment & supervision is supplied in the clinic)
  • Must be proficient in the donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be competent in completing the 3-point patient identification check process.
