As the Specialist Cardiac Physiologist, you are responsible for performing echocardiographic testing and scanning procedures on patients and some of the key responsibilities are:

  • Performance of cardiology tests and procedures
  • Patient care
  • Teamwork

What you'll do:


  • Provide diagnostic echocardiograms for cardiologists and GP referrals.
  • Provide accurate studies for Doctors perusal.
  • Perform these studies complying with the protocol as established within the Practice for all testing, as well as completing all appropriate paperwork.
  • Liaise with both general medical staff and specialist medical staff regarding echo reports of both an urgent and non-urgent basis.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy environment where the echo is to be carried out.
  • Reassure patients and give an explanation of the test to be performed in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Be prepared to provide an out-of-hours echocardiogram, if convenient, only in consultation with the Cardiologist.
  • Keep abreast of Cardiological Ultrasound imaging techniques.
  • Continue education in Echocardiography under the guidance of the Cardiologists
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance, repairs and servicing of echo equipment.
  • Ordering of echo accessories.
  • Training and orientation of new staff as appropriate

ECG's & Exercise Stress Tests

  • Assist with ECG's and Stress Tests for GPs and Cardiologists as required.
  • Update Resuscitation techniques as required.

Other Cardiological Testing

  • Learn how to put on, take off and interpret other cardiological equipment as made available in the Practice at any time.
  • Be prepared to learn to use and interpret new cardiological equipment as introduced into the Practice.

Other Responsibilities

  • Keep statistical records as required
  • Maintain stores of consumables and order as required.
  • Co-ordinate cardiac testing in regard to specific responsibilities for the day, the Cardiologists' clinics, patients' needs and other demands of the Practice.
  • Coordinate testing sessions with other support staff such as Cardiac Physiologists for Stress Testing
  • Participate in educational programmes as required to maintain resuscitation techniques.
  • Keep abreast of all new Industry and testing technology and be prepared to learn new techniques as introduced.

Responsiveness to patients and referrers

  • Be part of a unified multidiscipline team to achieve individualized patients services of the highest quality.
  • Respond to referrers by resolving issues and providing a prompt service in line with expectations
  • Work with colleagues and other administrative staff to achieve efficient and effective workflow through appointment and diary efficiency.
  • Liaise with Cardiologists, hospital Physicians and General Practitioners regarding on invasive testing results.

Who you are:

  • Diploma on Medical Ultrasound or equivalent
  • Ability to operate computer based technology
  • Current holder of an Australian Drivers Licence
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team
  • Ability to be proactive, anticipate needs and action accordingly
  • Attention to detail and pride in delivering consistently accurate and high quality work
  • Ability to organise/prioritise work in and around other people's deadlines and workloads and conflicting priorities
  • Bring a positive, enthusiastic and 'can-do' attitude to work
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships
