Round Oak Minerals (Round Oak) is a base and precious metals producer with a number of Australian based mining and processing operations. www.roundoakminerals.com.au.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HST Advisor for our Mt Colin mine site. Mt Colin operation is an underground copper / gold mine located halfway between Mount Isa and Cloncurry in North West Queensland. The mine is under a contract mining model, with Round Oak’s technical team overseeing the operation.

Job Description

Reporting to the General Manager and working as part of the HSEC team, you will be responsible for driving the Round Oak Zero Harm culture and assisting with the development and rollout of safety and health initiatives and training across the Mt Colin operation. You will be successful in this role by consulting with stakeholders regularly while driving HSEC performance. You have excellent interpersonal skills, communication abilities and a willingness to work with people at all levels of the organisation.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing on site expertise on health, safety and training matters
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and management systems
  • Coaching and mentoring staff on Round Oak HSEC processes
  • Leading and conducting incident investigations and preparation of relevant reports
  • Carrying out risk assessments and site audits/inspections as required
  • Facilitating tool box, safety meetings and training courses as required
  • Ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation and provision of sound technical advice
  • Liaise with health and safety regulatory authorities
  • Assisting, implementing, and monitoring return to work programs
  • Facilitating inductions for new and existing employees and conducting various site orientations
  • Facilitating employee D&A tests, PPE, medicals, training and VOC assessments
  • Develop and maintain site training and skills matrices and associated reports to ensure all renewals occur prior to certification and training expiries
  • Assist with providing leadership and training to ensure that all employees and contractors adhere to HSEC standards, promoting a strong zero harm culture
  • Continuous improvement to ensure work site safety is of the highest possible standard
  • Assist in the review of procedures in place to control the risks to workers to ensure it is at an acceptable level
  • Manage various site registers as required
  • Assisting with site mobilisations for the project
Desired Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Minimum of a Certificate IV in OHS/WHS ((Essential)
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Essential)
  • Demonstrated previous experience within mining and civil projects
  • ICAM Lead Investigator trained
  • Strong understanding of applicable QLD legislation
  • Ability to communicate information quickly and precisely
  • Ability to prioritise work commitments and meet deadlines
  • Well-developed organisational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong eye for detail
  • Valid Manual Driver’s License
