JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Number:

Division:
Planning
Employment Status:
Permanent Full Time

Environmental Planning & Services

If you’re an environmental planner with the ambition and drive to help Australia’s third largest Council get the balance right between development and environmental protection - then this job is the challenge you’re been looking for.

The Moreton Bay Region comprises traditional Jinibara, Kabi Kabi and Turrbal country and boasts an enviable lifestyle with beautiful beaches, waterways and lush hinterlands. It is also experiencing some of the fastest population growth in the country and over the next two decades it will be home to more people than the entire state of Tasmania.

Our Council recognises and values the critical importance of our natural assets, particularly its integral role in creating a sense of belonging, wellbeing and health for residents and wildlife alike.

Our challenge is to protect and enhance our lifestyle while sensitively planning and facilitating the anticipated growth. A further challenge is to maintain that balance so that future generations can enjoy the amenity we value so highly today.

The newly established Environment and Sustainability Policy and Planning Department sits within the Planning Division and takes a lead role in developing the strategic environmental and sustainability policies to deliver this outcome. A major piece of work currently underway is the development of a Regional Environment and Sustainability Strategy that will sit at the highest level within MBRC and inform a transition for the Council, community and residents to a more sustainable future.

The Department is entering a growth phase in order to meet legislative requirements, community aspirations and Council’s priorities. Its functions comprise three streams; Sustainability Planning, Natural Hazards Planning and Biodiversity Planning. Right now, we are looking for a Principal Planner - Biodiversity to join the team.

About our opportunity

The Principal Planner will be our technical expert and provide leadership in the delivery of integrated environmental and biodiversity planning outcomes across the region. This includes leading the delivery of key strategies and policies.

The Principal Planner will foster professional and effective relationships, working collaboratively with key stakeholders (internally and externally) to deliver safe, practical and sustainable outcomes.

About you

We are looking for demonstrated substantial experience within environmental, biodiversity and/or strategic planning. A relevant qualification such as Planning or similar and current c class drivers’ licence.

As a people person, you will possess excellent collaboration skills and demonstrated experience within stakeholder engagement and consultation.

The Principal Planner will also have strong leadership skills, having led a team in a previous role as well as project management experience.
