The Organisation

This global energy and infrastructure organisation is now looking to recruit their Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager to head up their mining operation. In this critical role, you will be part of an organisation that thrives with employees who are innovative, agile and can think differently. Based in Regional Queensland, you will work for a standout organisation that recognises safety and environmental compliance as its priority, while respecting and supporting the local community and Traditional Owners of the region. This is an exciting opportunity for the right person who is motivated by leading a robust and results-driven culture and living by the core values of the organisation.

The Role

With a direct line to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for a team of ~12 staff members. A combination of HSE Superintendents, Seniors and Officers. You will lead this team both strategically and operationally to ensure alignment to the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act, the Environmental Protection Act, and other important regulatory / legislative standards.

You will also oversee:
The process improvement and effective use of a robust safety, quality and environment management system;
Leading and influencing a strong safety culture onsite, working with an integrated behavioural based program to work towards ‘zero harm’;
Identifying major risks onsite and the delivery of a highly effective risk management system;
Oversee and manage development of a departmental budget consistent operations, as well as objectives and strategic plans;
Working with the corporate office to implement high level policies and processes at a site level that could then be implemented across all projects and operations;
Ensuring operational excellence at all times to align with the broader business strategy; and
Develop effective training programs for safety systems, emergency response, first aid, and medical services.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have an extensive background working at a HSE management level, with industry experience within the Energy and Resources sectors. You will possess a passionate, patient, and pragmatic style, being able to build strong credibility quickly within both the broader leadership team as well as the employees onsite.

Requirements

University / tertiary qualifications within the HSEC disciplines (Environmental would be highly advantageous)
A minimum 2 years’ experience as a site based HSEC Manager, or 5+ years as an HSE Superintendent
Sound / Acute knowledge on the Mining Safety and Health Act as well as QLD Environmental Standards and Statutory Obligations.
