JOB DESCRIPTION

Queensland's comprehensive legislative approach to safeguarding people with disability is unique and the most complex and comprehensive among Australian jurisdictions.

The work of the Positive Behaviour Support and Restrictive Practices team is guided by the Disability Services Act 2006 and the Guardianship and Administration Act (2000) and includes:

  • authorising the short term use of restrictive practices for adults with disability who display challenging behaviours which may cause harm to themselves or others
  • developing Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs) for a range of clients including those subject to the restrictive practices of containment and/or seclusion and all PBSPs for clients residing in the Queensland Government's Accommodation Support and Respite Services (AS&RS).

Role Scope

The PO3 Clinician is responsible for providing effective, contemporary and evidence-based clinical services in regard to positive behaviour support and restrictive practices using an individualised assessment and service delivery approach.

Key responsibilities of this role

  • Provide contemporary, transparent and evidence-based clinical advice in regard to positive behaviour support and reducing and eliminating restrictive practices in the context of the Disability Services Act 2006.
  • Develop Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSP) for adults with intellectual or cognitive impairment, subject to containment and seclusion, and for all restrictive practices where the service provider is AS&RS as part of the in kind agreement.
  • Undertake and prepare clinical assessments, submissions, reports, briefs and other documentation as required.
  • Maintain an active clinical caseload of individuals with complex behaviour support needs.
  • Ensure that compliance is maintained in regard to the legislative framework and ensure appropriate safeguards are implemented for clients in line with the Disability Services Act 2006.
  • Collaborate with the team which holds the oversight function of the positive behaviour support and restrictive practices framework under the Disability Services Act 2006.
  • Ability to create and maintain client records consistent with departmental and legislative requirements.
