About the opportunity:

We are looking to hire locomotive drivers for the sugar cane crushing season which will start in June and conclude in November. Local applicants will be given preference. Experience in sugar cane transport is preferred, but people with locomotive driving in other industries will be considered. This role involves 8-hour shift work including weekend work and overtime. We pay for all uniforms, work boots, training, and licence renewal costs as required for the position.

Reporting to the Logistics Coordinator, you will have the responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of cane trains delivering, collecting and transporting cane bins in the Mossman district. You will be a key member of the cane supply team adhering to safety, environmental and operational policies and procedures.

About us:

Mossman Mill has been operating since 1896. The mill crushes cane supplied by approximately 140 local growers spread from the Atherton Tablelands in the west, south of Port Douglas and in the north fringing the Daintree rainforest. The sugar industry is the largest industry in the Douglas Shire after tourism and the Mossman Mill is one of the largest employers in the region. Far Northern Milling acquired the Mossman Mill in July 2019 and we are looking to expand and diversify our operations to bring the Mill into a viable and sustainable business.

About you:

As a minimum you will hold a Locomotive Drivers qualification and have recent experience operating locomotives. You will work with a Drivers Assistant on a rotating shift roster, be reasonably fit and agile to meet the demands of the job and be able to work in unpredictable and physical outdoor conditions. The ideal applicants are punctual & reliable team players & problem solvers, with a positive and constructive attitude.
