We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, passionate, community orientated person to join our student liaison team. The successful applicant will work in conjunction with a highly experienced Student Services Faculty, delivering outcomes for all students across a range of backgrounds. Speaking a Polynesian language is considered extremely advantageous for this role.

About Glenala State High School

Glenala State High School is a vibrant learning setting located in Durack, in Brisbane's south-west. Students from Durack, Inala, Richlands, Darra, Pallara and Doolandella make up the population of over 950 students, including Indigenous Australians and many students who were born overseas.

Glenala excels in many avenues such as academic and vocational pathways. Three times in the last five years Glenala has produced an OP One Student. During this time Glenala has also produced many vocational pathways due to the recently built Trades Skills Centre.

In 2019 a four million dollar STEM Centre of Excellence also opened.

Glenala draws its strength from a highly experienced staff base who are well equipped to teach students from over 40 different nationalities.

Your Role

As the Community Liaison Officer you will have responsibility for the following:

  • Develop and implement strategies for effective links between home and school related issues and to encourage greater interest and participation in school activities and programs.
  • Facilitate opportunity for raising parental concerns and advocate equity of service provision.
  • Promote liaison activities to provide information to parents, the school and its community, and facilitate community development activities to improve relations between the school and its community.
  • Act as the contact for parents/carers and the indigenous community to determine relevant issues for improved relationships between the school and its indigenous community.
  • Plan and deliver or organise public presentations, and inform and educate parents and community members/groups about educational trends and policies.
  • Establish and monitor school and community networks relevant to the position's role.
  • Develop and maintain a register of community and classroom helpers and relevant information for parents/carers.
  • Assist in recruiting and resourcing of volunteer help, including the coordination of a volunteer program.
  • Carry out administrative tasks associated with the position's duties, including clerical duties related to writing and responding to correspondence.
  • Contribute to applications made for funding.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
