About the role: 

The Junior Corporate Counsel role is responsible for providing quality and timely legal service and advice to the Group, with a focus on the continual improvement of G8’s legal capability and service. This role will manage a broad range of matters including M&A, property and commercial law matters, contracts, company secretarial/corporate governance, insurance, leasing, operational queries and compliance.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Review, negotiate and draft a broad range of Support Office and Centre focused agreements, including undertaking negotiations directly with third parties
  • Assist with various mergers and acquisition transactions including due diligence and management of execution through to completion
  • Assist with reviewing, negotiating and drafting Leases, Agreement for Lease, lease assignments, landlord consents and associated documents (including precedent documents)
  • Prepare and finalise option renewal notices, lease renewals and rent review documentation
  • Assist with dispute resolution, including landlord claims, breach notices and default notices.
  • Provide administrative assistance with respect to the Board and Board meetings, including the Annual General Meeting, Half and Full Year Investor Calls and Investor Day presentations.
  • Assist with preparation of Board and Committee agendas, submission papers, policies and certain standing items, including Diligent Board Book templates and uploads.
  • Manage the Board calendar, Board planner and Board diary, including Diligent Boards management and maintenance.
  • Manage the DOA approvals and signing process for all contracts, including maintaining the contracts register and contracts signing register.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance in respect of grievances, complaints, contractual and other disputes

Essential Criteria: 

  • Bachelor of Laws with 1+ years PAE in commercial and property matters within a leading mid/top tier firm or within in-house role
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and complete multiple projects at the same time
  • Proven ability to work independently, excellent work ethic and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of the business
  • Sound commercial judgment
  • Well-developed experience in partnering with stakeholders to support wider business strategies and ensuring that staff and supplies are aware of, and comply with, their obligations
  • Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Exceptional written and oral skills
  • You must hold (or be willing to obtain) a current Working with Children Check
