Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an energetic, passionate and highly capable Duty Officer to join the team at our Stagpole Street Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Unit uin Townsville on a casual basis.
  • Casual position - Flexible working hours (night shift)
  • $30.61 per hour + 9.5% Super + NFP Salary Packaging

In this role you will work within the policies and procedures of Pinangba to help people overcome substance abuse with the aim of assisting them to live more productive and fulfilling lives.

What you’ll need:
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Ability to prevent and manage violent situations in an appropriate manner.
  • Be able to work as a “night owl” from 11pm to 7am.
  • Knowledge of social health and cultural issues of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, especially with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Sound written skills, including the ability to complete reporting requirements.
  • Ability to follow policy and procedures for the administration of medication to clients.
  • Teamwork skills (including the ability to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team).
  • Commitment to principles of Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-Discrimination.
  • All Blue Care staff must satisfy the relevant probity checks required by legislation or policies.
  • Ability to work as a "Night Owl" - 11pm - 7am

Key Responsibilities
  • To check the security of the centre every hour – includes a check on all access points and the entire perimeter of the complex.
  • Prevent and manage, where possible, any violent behaviour on premises.
  • Network and Liaise with other services to provide a service to people in need of assistance.
  • Where possible, consult with the service manager/team leader about decisions regarding any suspicions, or incidents if the service manager/ team leader is not available document and report these suspicions and incidents so the coordinator can deal with them appropriately.
  • Monitor DARU, where possible, to ensure that no residents or visitors bring contraband items on to the premises or come into the premises intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
  • Ensure the residents are following the rules of the centre and role model this behaviour
  • Provide support and assistance to clients in accordance with the DARU Policies and procedures when required
  • Report any maintenance issues to the line manager.
  • Complete documents and reporting requirements as per the DARU Policies and Procedures.
  • Advocate and provide support on behalf of clients who require assistance and provide basic counselling to residents.
  • Work as a team member of a multi-discipline team to support DARU residents in overcoming substance abuse.
  • Provide an afterhours service to telephone enquiries by potential residents and people interested in the DARU.
  • Assist with medication for residents as indicated in the medication record chart.
  • Respond to crisis situations appropriately, ringing police and or ambulance services when necessary, and complete appropriate documentation.
  • Attend staff meetings a least once a month and where attendance is not possible staff meeting minutes must be read and understood.
  • Network and Liaise with other services to provide a service to people in need of assistance.
    • Undertake other duties as required/directed as service needs change or grow (consistent with the above, within the scope of the position and any applicable Duties List and any other legal or industrial obligations).
