Crown Lands within the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) is looking for an experienced executive to take on the newly created role of Executive Director, Aboriginal Land Strategy.

  • TRP starting from $275k including superannuation, commensurate with experience
About The Role

As the Executive Director, Aboriginal Land Strategy you will drive transformational change by developing a contemporary Aboriginal Land Strategy to accelerate the realisation of Aboriginal land rights and Native Title interests in NSW, working in close partnership with Aboriginal communities and key government agencies.

You will be instrumental in leading the reform and revitalisation of the resolution of Aboriginal land claims in a manner that maximises the benefits to Aboriginal stakeholders, contributes to reconciliation and delivers economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits for communities.

In this role you will also drive cultural capability within the Department, and deliver advisory and educative programs to build community understanding and awareness of the Native Title Act and the Aboriginal Land Rights Act.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a proactive and results-driven senior executive with proven capabilities in leading significant change and/or reform within a similar environment. You will have a strategic mindset with the ability to develop and implement contemporary strategic approaches to measure outcomes in Aboriginal land rights.

It is essential that you have deep cultural competence and a demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders. You will also possess strong stakeholder engagement and executive level influencing skills as you will be responsible for conducting complex and sensitive negotiations with stakeholders to resolve land claims, broker land transfers and agreements, and deliver tangible outcomes to support Aboriginal land ownership and activation in NSW.

Additionally, you will have strong resilience and be a proven thought leader who can inspire and drive a high performing team through transformational change.

Crown Lands is responsible for managing NSW’s Crown land on behalf of the people of NSW. Crown land covers around 42% of NSW and includes parks, reserves, roads and cemeteries with a value at over $6.1 billion. Crown land is used and enjoyed for recreation, businesses, tourism and has significant importance to the Aboriginal people of NSW.
