The Opportunity

The Cyber Security Analyst is a key position in the UNSW Cyber Security Operations team responsible for the identification, response, and remediation of operational and security incidents across the organisation.

The role will support incident response activities and work with various teams to provide consultation and advice to ensure timely resolution of issues together with incident managers, technical leads, and directly with customers and stakeholders.

The Cyber Security Analyst will be required to possess and demonstrate technical knowledge and hands on experience across various security controls including firewalls, endpoint security, data loss prevention, key management, encryption, etc. across both on-premise and public cloud environments. Duties will include regular review and update of policies, configuration, and the planning of software and hardware updates and upgrades.

The Cyber Security Analyst will contribute to the IT security operational management and change implementation requirements of UNSW IT, Faculties, Divisions, Affiliate and stakeholders. This role will require the ability to engage, collaborate, and negotiate effectively and to adjust personal style and approach to optimise outcomes.

The role of Cyber Security Analyst reports to the Head of Cyber Security Operations and has no direct reports.

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum of eight years’ experience in cybersecurity operations, incident response, or consulting within customer facing environments
  • Strong technical skills and operational experience in the management, configuration, and support of security controls across at least four areas listed below:

- Privileged Access Management (highly desirable)

- Data Loss Prevention (highly desirable)

- Network Firewalls o Endpoint Protection o Application Security

  • Cyber Security experience within enterprise-scale Office 365, AWS, and Azure environments
  • CISSP, CISM, SANS GIAC GCIH/GCFA, OSCP certifications are highly desirable
  • Comprehensive analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
  • Advanced consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation
