JOB DESCRIPTION

IPA Townsville are currently seeking an experienced Management Accountant for a full-time role with one of our federal government clients. The right person will provide high level support, advice and technical expertise to the Chief Finance Officer and partner with our clients executive and management teams regarding budget and operational plan development and performance.

You will work collaboratively to deliver results and display the personal drive and integrity expected of an Australian Public Service (APS) employee.

Your duties will include but is not limited to.

  1. Provide timely management and system accounting expertise through the delivery of value adding internal financial reporting, advice and insight to managers, and accuracy of the Authority's financial forecast.
  2. Coordinate the Authority's external Commonwealth budget cycle and funding returns, including all Central Budget Management System (CBMS) budgeting requirements.
  3. Coordinate, develop, review and monitor the annual budget and operational planning strategy, ensuring alignment with the Strategic Planning process.
  4. Identify and provide advice and insight on accounting and finance issues. and contribute to the development of the Authority's financial management strategy and internal controls to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation.
  5. Deliver and manage special projects as required and ensure and advise others on the adherence to relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  6. Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex and/or sensitive issues and negotiate and influence outcomes to achieve Authority objectives.
  7. Provide expertise and maintenance of the Authority's financial management system through optimising system potential and enabling reporting efficiencies.
  8. Provide leadership and coaching to support the small management accounting team to achieve positive outcomes.
Applicants must:

  1. be an Australian citizen at time of applying for position,
  2. be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance, failure to do so will result in termination of employment,
  3. hold and maintain professional membership with CPA or CA.
Essential qualifications and experience

  • have tertiary qualifications in business, commerce or accounting, and a minimum of 10 years relevant post-graduate experience in the accounting environment.
  • excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • extensive knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the following statutes and standards, as they relate to the position:
    a. Australian Accounting Standards,
    b. Commonwealth Financial policies and procedures,
    c. Financial Delegations.
Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Previous experience utilising Technology One Finance System.
