About the role

As the Supplier Quality Manager at Rheinmetall Defence Australia, you will be responsible for providing strategic and operational management support to the Australian Industry Capability team by overseeing the various supplier quality projects. You will also ensure that performance and deliverables of contractors and / or suppliers are consistent with global and local business requirements.


As the Supplier Quality Manager, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:


  • Lead, coach and mentor a team of Supplier Quality Engineers;
  • Lead the effort on supplier vetting and performance review processes through a balance scorecard approach;
  • Collect and evaluate supplier quality data and report / present supplier performance metrics monthly and as requested;
  • Embed a formal risk management approach which applies at all levels of the organisation;
  • Lead and conduct external audits and participate in internal audits of contractors and supplier quality systems;
  • Identify "At-Risk" suppliers and employ quality strategies to prevent the production of defective products;
  • Support external suppliers with preventive quality methods, process capability and supplier production processes to ensure high quality supplier performance;
  • Collaborate with procurement and our global supply base to identify new suppliers; and
  • Assist in training both internal and external suppliers on the supplier management documentation requirements for Australian Defence.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Engineering or any related discipline;
  • Extensive experience in supplier evaluation / selection and supply base management;
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience;
  • Proven experience working in project or program management within the manufacturing / defence / government environment;
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication, consultation and negotiation skills;
  • Advanced MS Office skills;
  • Be eligible for an Australian Government Security Clearance and have the capacity to satisfy pre-employment screening;
  • The ability to travel domestically and internationally when and if required.
