Purpose of the Job

  • To support the Studio Manager in delivering D&S objectives.
  • To develop creative mobility solutions which embody Alstom’s brand DNA and Perceived Quality values and are perceived by customers as best in class.
  • To create design solutions that are compliant to applicable technical, contractual, legal and standards requirements.
  • Timely delivery of D&S deliverables to support project milestones.
  • Work to D&S processes and policies.
  • Working together with stakeholders who affect or are affected by appearance requirements.
  • Being aware of design trends

Key Responsibilities

  • Understanding and interpreting customer/market requirements delivering innovative cost-effective solutions which meet applicable functional and appearance requirements.
  • Participating and leading as necessary work packages during tenders, delivery projects and Research and Development activities.
  • Ensuring that proposed design solutions embody Alstom’s DNA and Perceived Quality values.
  • Effectively communicating design proposals and solutions using a variety of techniques including but not limited to sketches, renderings, Alias Models, and specification documents.
  • Working as part of multi-functional engineering team.
  • Working with external partners.
  • Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of D&S processes
  • Successful completion of bid and delivery projects through the timely completion of agreed deliverables.
  • Keeping abreast of technological developments and looking to enhance Alstom’s mobility solutions.

Key Requirements / skills

  • Design Degree essential with solid understanding of design processes
  • Experience of contributing product design thinking and skills to multifunctional engineering teams.
  • Experience of designing for manufacture and assembly using the range of materials and methods used by Alstom.
  • Able to solve complex problems and present innovative solutions.
  • Strong teamworking ethic with a drive for results.
  • Strives for cross-team collaboration and leads by example, i.e. actions, behaviour and delivery.
  • Strong empathy for the various actors in the lifecycle of a product; manufacturing, users, maintainers, etc.
  • Able to work independently applying design knowledge, precedent and judgement based on procedures and methods.
  • Supports development of colleagues, encouraging development and recognising success.
  • Able to communicate design proposals effectively using a range of mediums and techniques.
