About Department
The Rehabilitation Service at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, provides Inpatient Rehabilitation and Community Based Rehabilitation over four sites (Fitzroy, St Vincent's on the Park East Melbourne, St George's Hospital Kew and a Community Rehabilitation Centre in Thornbury.

This position is with Disability Clinics of the Health Independence Program and is based at the main Fitzroy Campus. The YACD service comprises Rehabilitation Physicians and trainees Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, and works closely with other disciplines, working as an integrated team to coordinate the transition of young people from Paediatric health services to Adult health services that meet their the medical, physical, functional and psycho-social factors needs. The clinic services a diverse group of clients from northern Metro Melbourne and some regional clients. There is a Spasticity Management Clinic for management of clients with spasticity. The Intrathecal Baclofen Clinic manages patients with intrathecal pumps including assessment of patients for intrathecal baclofen pumps and ongoing management.

About the Role
The Consultant Rehabilitation Physician provides professional assessment and treatment to clients attending the Young Adults with Complex Disability Clinic, including a Spasticity Management Clinic and the Intrathecal Baclofen Clinic.

The successful candidate should be a Consultant Physician of Rehabilitation Physician with experience in the management of young patients with complex disability and preferably in the management of spasticity with Botulinum toxin, neve blocks and intrathecal baclofen. Experience. In addition to the provision of patient care, the position involves teaching, training and participation of approved research with the team.

Classifications for this position will range from Specialist Year 1 to Specialist Year 9 HN18 - HN58 ($281,372 - $365,274 per annum)

Duties

  • Take consultant responsibility for clients referred to YACD and ITB clinics by providing evidence based comprehensive assessment of patients with persistent disability making a key contribution to diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment
  • Participate in the triage of referrals, including client education and triage assessments
  • Conduct interventional practitioner procedures for spasticity management
  • Liaise with Inpatient Rehabilitation Teams of St Vincent's regarding inpatient care.
  • Provide education, training and mentoring of Medical and Allied Health Professionals involved in the management of young people with complex disability


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Fellowship of Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (or equivalent)
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Indemnification with recognised Medical Defence Association
