About Department

9 West is a 24-bed surgical ward. 9 West is the Victorian referral centre for the treatment of musculoskeletal tumours and works closely with the VCCC to provide optimal world class treatment and outcomes. 9 West also caters to caring for patients undergoing elective (joint replacement surgery) and emergency orthopaedic procedures. The unit facilitates trauma admissions and specialises in major bone tumour referrals and treatment of this patient group. In addition, the specialty provides dedicated beds for endocrine patients, priding itself on maintaining a culture focused on the delivery of high quality patient care and continuous improvement.

About the Role

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager, in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager, will administer and manage the professional and operational resources of the unit. The Associate Nurse Unit Manager, under the direction of the Nurse Unit Manager, will be responsible for providing mentoring and leadership to the Nursing Team.

Classifications for this position will range from YW11 - YW12 ($100,703 - $104,088 per annum pro rata).

Duties

  • Lead and direct nursing staff to ensure a high standard of patient care is delivered in accordance with the Values and Heath Care Philosophy of the Sisters of Charity
  • Act as a clinical role model by providing the highest standard of direct patient care
  • Act as a leader and role model with a focus on staff health and well being
  • Demonstrate an understanding of unit targets and implement strategies to achieve
  • Participate in annual review of policies, procedures and standards as directed by Nurse Unit Manager

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Degree in general nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Advanced clinical nursing skills
  • Leadership qualities with proven ability to direct, enthuse and encourage a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated organisational skills
  • Post Graduate Certificate / Degree in Orthopaedic Nursing highly regarded.
