About the Role

BHP’s Maintenance and Engineering Centre of Excellence (MECoE) is the coming together of a dedicated, innovative team focused on identifying, achieving and maintaining the highest standards in maintenance for BHP globally.

The role will be performed from our Centre of Excellence hub based in our Brisbane office, supported by the latest technology to engage with our sites around the Australia and the globe.

Reporting to the Manager Performance and Analytics, you will manage and support a team of enthusiastic data practitioners helping them to deliver solutions for the problems in our business, demonstrating the power of a Data Analysis & Analytics team.

Your key responsibilities in this role would be:

  • Manage a growing team who is working on the most exciting and value adding projects in the mining industry.
  • Responsible in mentoring members and helping them grow their knowledge and skills.
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to understand their business requirements, structure, priorities and plan to address their problems.
  • Apply the latest techniques in advanced analytics, machine learning and data science in order to deliver actionable insights to our business.
  • Actively identify and drive more advanced analytics initiatives to deliver value to our stakeholders and projects.
  • Be able to clearly explain advanced analytical solutions strengths and weaknesses to both technical and senior business stakeholders
  • Collaborate and develop strong effective working relationships with the wider team members

About You

The successful candidate will be able to work within a team environment, and will possess strong problem solving skills, a collaborative mindset and be passionate about delivering extraordinary results with a focus on continuously improving how we get there.

The following outlines key skills and experience to succeed in this role:

  • Proven leadership capability in a professional environment with solid interpersonal skills to motivate and develop your team members e.g. managed project teams and/or direct reports
  • Demonstrated experience delivering performance improvement solutions for business problems, applying data and statistical analysis and machine learning techniques
  • Programming experience in languages such as R, SPSS, Python
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with an ability for explaining complex concepts to people from other fields
  • Experience in the consulting or resource industry is desirable, but not required.
  • Degree in engineering, computer science, statistics, mathematics or related field.
