JOB DESCRIPTION

Horticultural Nursery Apprentice undertake a range of tasks involving the growing, dispatching and maintenance of trees, plants and growing beds.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of new and existing beds
  • Loading, unloading and moving plants and supplies
  • Assist with the planting and transporting of seeds, bulbs, shrubs, trees
  • Cleaning of all areas including amenities and removing rubbish
  • Maintaining plants by watering, weeding, fertilizing, staking and pruning
  • Detailing and packaging of plants for sale or transport

Horticultural Nursery Assistants work generally under supervision/instructions of an area Manager or Supervisor. Working conditions are outside in full sun and in shade houses/hail netting often in a team. Some of the work is physically demanding as it involves bending, lifting and the use of machinery such as tractors, trailers, trolleys. Personal Protective Equipment must be used while outdoors and if handling fertilisers and pesticides, and to prevent injury.

As a Horticultural Nursery Apprentice we will train and develop you to gain hands on skill and knowledge in all aspects of the following:

  • Nursery production
  • Plant care and maintenance
  • Pest and Disease management
  • High levels of plant identification

To be eligible for an apprenticeship or traineeship you must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have full working rights.
