The IFYS LTD Foster and Kinship Care program provides developmental support for children who are entering or at risk of entering, residing, or exiting care and care-givers on the Sunshine Coast. The Program also provides recruitment, training, and on-going support services for Approved Foster and Kinship Carers. Operating since 1992, IFYS Foster Care recognises that all children and young people are different with unique needs, and as such provide individually tailored support services.

There is currently a vacancy for a Foster and Kinship Care Coordinator to join the Sunshine Coast Foster and Kinship Care program. The Foster and Kinship Care Coordinator assesses the capacity of foster and kinship carers to meet the standards of care as outlined by Child Safety, also assisting carers to provide ongoing care that is appropriate and considerate of individual needs that will change and evolve over time.

This position is full-time and contracted for a 12 month period, with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Foster and Kinship Care Team Leader, this role will be responsible for:

  • Completing assessment reports to be approved by Child Safety, assessing foster and kinship carers capacity to meet standards of care
  • Supporting carers to provide ongoing care that is emotionally and physically safe, developmentally appropriate, nurturing, appropriately engaging and stimulating which fosters growth and resilience
  • Meeting all compliance requirements set by Child Safety for HQSF licensing purposes
  • Providing support to children in regards to placements, targeting specific issues through appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant for their care plan
  • Conducting assessments and developing individual care plans for each child in care in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Conducting home visits for all families, with additional ongoing regular email, phone, and in-person support
  • Supporting families and children to develop natural links and connections with their family and community
  • Availability to attend community events to recruit carers (includes out of hours work)
  • Creating and develop functional links with community organisations, professional services, alternate care networks
  • Taking part in the on-call services and complete other duties as directed

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Professional experience working with children and families in a therapeutic environment
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or a related field
  • Exceptional time management and prioritisation skills
  • Understanding of child protection and statutory intervention services
  • Specialised knowledge and experience of child development trauma
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strengths-based and client-centred Practice
  • Exemplary communication skills, including report writing
