The School of Clinical Medicine has a strong focus on the delivery of the Medicine program across a number of sites within the Brisbane metropolitan area, including but not limited to, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Herston; the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba as well as QE2 and Redlands Hospitals; the Prince Charles Hospital, Chermside as well as Redcliffe and Caboolture Hospitals; Mater and Queensland Children’s Hospitals, South Brisbane; Ipswich Hospital, Ipswich; Greenslopes Private Hospital, Greenslopes; the Primary Care Clinical Unit, Herston and the St Lucia Campus. Leadership at each site is provided by an experienced academic with responsibility for budget and financial matters, human resource matters and facility management. The School consists of academic staff members across all clinical disciplines and more than 2500 academic title holders.

About This Opportunity

The Senior Manager, School of Clinical Medicine (SoCM) is responsible for directing and supervising all operational functions of SoCM to ensure the organisational and financial sustainability of the clinical school– a significant component of the Medical Deans Portfolio (MDP). The Senior Manager is responsible for supporting and operationalising the strategic direction of SoCM. The Senior Manager is the primary advisor to the Head of SoCM and clinical school staff on all matters pertaining to University, Faculty and MDP policies, operations, and business processes. The Senior Manager is a professional services representative on the MDP Executive Committee and advocates on behalf of SoCM at a senior level.

This position is located at our Herston Campus, UQ’s core campus for clinical health teaching and research. Sharing premises with royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the QIMR Berghofer Medical research Institute, the campus houses a vibrant clinical and research community that delivers innovative and contemporary research and education programs in a clinical academic environment. Conveniently located just minutes from Brisbane’s city centre, there is access to multiple public transport connections, onsite parking and cycling facilities.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking candidates with postgraduate qualifications in a relevant area (or progress towards postgraduate qualifications) and extensive relevant experience; or extensive relevant experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.

The successful appointee must also be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant work experience in a management role, preferably within a tertiary education environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the effective leadership, supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills combined with demonstrated experience working in a complex environment.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW level 9.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $117,548 - $124,391, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $137,532- $145,537.
