OBJECTIVE OF THIS ROLE

The Maintenance Supervisor will be principally responsible for the physical delivery and day to day

management of maintenance operations on council’s rural and urban road, drainage, footpath and

cycle way networks incorporating council’s quality, environmental and workplace health and safety

systems. Day to day planning, supervision of council’s construction staff and the efficient utilisation

plant are integral responsibilities of this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS ROLE

1. Project Supervision. Monitor and comply with required standards, policies and procedures
adopted by council. Ensure safe work practices are adhered to in line with relevant legislative
requirements, Transport and Main Roads procedures and council policies, abiding by the
Workplace Health and Safety Act and Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

2. Budget. Monitor and control budget costings for maintenance and construction projects.

3. People Management. Provide effective and efficient supervision, direction and discipline of
allocated staff.

4. Flexibility. When required manage construction activities on councils rural and urban road,
drainage, footpath and cycle way networks, along with construction and maintenance
activities on the Main Roads road networks.

5. Identification & Maintenance. Identify and manage maintenance activities on council’s rural
and urban road, drainage, footpath and cycle way networks incorporating council’s quality
system.

6. Capture Asset Condition. Undertake inspections of rural road and drainage networks in
order to prioritise planned and emergent works.

7. Stakeholder Liaison. Liaise with stakeholders to determine maintenance needs and issues
and to resource required materials.

8. Community Support. Provide support to community events as required.

Additionally, this position may be required to conduct other duties as lawfully directed by the

reporting manager.

ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Mandatory:

  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision of a work team and plant equipment within a

road construction and or maintenance environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office package.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and experience with Road Maintenance Performance Contracts or other

Transport and Main Roads related works.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCES REQUIRED

Mandatory:

  • Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers licence.
  • Certificate III Civil Construction.

Desirable:

  • Project Management qualification.
  • Front Line Management qualification.
  • Various plant operator qualifications.
  • Certificate IV WHS (or equivalent) or willing to undertake within 12 months of

commencement.

1. Extensive experience in civil construction and maintenance and knowledge of civil

construction process and methodologies

2. Experience in leading and mentoring civil construction and maintenance teams to improve

performance and outcomes

3. Strong understanding of infrastructure and construction specifications

4. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate as an effective team member
