Glencore Queensland Metals is currently seeking a suitably experienced Project Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Resource Development. Reporting through to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, this challenging role is a great opportunity for a motivated and driven individual to work closely in a multidisciplinary team to support our Queensland Metals operations and Resource Development projects. You will gain exposure to a number of polymetallic orebodies applying various underground mining methods.

You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including:
  • Collecting rock mass and structural data to support development of geotechnical models
  • Validate and maintain geotechnical databases
  • Develop instrumentation and monitoring plans
  • Prepare geotechnical reports and presentations
  • Coordinate and manage engineering consultants to support projects
  • Assist with geotechnical modelling, design and hazard assessments of Life of Asset plans and mining projects across the Queensland Metals sites
  • Support collaboration between Resource Development and other key stakeholders to produce the best outcome for Glencore
The successful applicants will have:
  • A tertiary higher degree or equivalent qualification in Mining/ Civil Engineering or related discipline with relevant Geotechnical experience
  • More than six years in large-scale underground hard rock mining, ideally with mass mining and/or open stoping design experience
  • Exposure to mining projects is preferred
  • AusIMM membership is preferred
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment, with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient technical report writing
  • Advanced 3D mining and geotechnical software skills, preferably Deswik, Map3D, Roscience suite and Leapfrog
  • Rock mass data acquisition (through core logging and mapping) skills
