Your new role

If you are you looking to take the next step in your career and have what it takes to lead the proactive and reactive communications of Council business units including media, marketing, community education and community engagement, this is the role for you.

With your experience in a corporate and politically sensitive environment, you will understand and support Council’s brand and ensure messaging is consistent and effective across all platforms to increase positive perception by the Community.

You will be part of a high-performing team who are the conduit for media advice and matters for Councillors related to their portfolios, including managing overall media messaging for Council as an organisation on a daily basis and prioritizing key messages.

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the role of communications in a corporate and politically sensitive environment.
  • Ability to build effective and collaborative relationships with journalists, other levels of Government and other external stakeholder.
  • Knowledge about the operations of media organisations with a strong news sense.
  • Team player with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of emerging media distribution platforms.

Application Criteria

  • Strong written and oral communication with experience in the development and production of media releases, feature articles, digital content, marketing, community education and promotional literature.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying potential critical issues, and preparing appropriate communication strategies for sensitive media issues in a corporate and politically sensitive environment.
  • Ability to use initiative and maintain a high degree of confidentiality, discretion and judgment while maintaining a strong customer service approach.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills with the ability to consult and liaise professionally with media groups, senior management and all key stakeholders.
