About the Departments
8 West is a 24 bed unit, comprising of 20 acute General Medical beds and 4 Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) beds. 8 West also has a Discharge Lounge that operates Monday to Friday.

8 East is a 24 bed General Medical unit which provides rapid multidisciplinary assessment of General Medical patients admitted via the Emergency Department and the Intensive Care Unit. 8 East compromises of 20 acute beds, 4 ACE beds and houses in the Increased Observation Room, a 4 bed room that gives specialised care to patients with delirium and dementia.

10 East is a 24 bed ward acute medical unit patients including nephrology, neurology, stroke, dermatology and general medicine. It has 2 negative pressure rooms for patients requiring respiratory isolation and 4 rooms fitted with haemodialysis ports for acute renal patients.

About the Roles
Exciting opportunities exists for passionate, caring and qualified Health Assistants (Nursing) to join our dynamic team on 8 West, 8 East or 10 East at St Vincent's Hospital. You will work as part of a wider ward team, under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) or equivalent, and will make a positive contribution to patient care through assistance and support to our Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses.

Within this role, the elements of direct and non-direct patient care will be delegated in accordance with the professional judgement of the supervising Registered Nurse, and in accordance with the level of achieved educational preparation and assessed competence of each Health Assistant (Nursing).

Classifications for these roles will be:

PW11 - WP11 ($47,991 - $52,026 base salary per annum).

CW11 ($51,526 per annum).


· Work within the role and parameters determined within the position description and the specific unit duty list

· Contribute to positive patient outcomes by ensuring all elements of delegated work is completed accurately and in accordance with St Vincent's policies and procedures

· Participate in delegated aspects of patient care, including but not limited to assistance with: personal hygiene, nutritional needs, mobility, transfers and positioning within the ward, elimination needs

· Ensure patient privacy and dignity is maintained at all times

· Observation and reporting of patients considered at risk of harm to self and/or others

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

· Certificate III Health Assistant (Nursing) or other relevant Certificate or satisfactory completion of first year of study in a health related degree

· Previous experience as a Health Assistant is desirable

· Good interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills including an ability to communicate effectively with other staff, patients and families

· Satisfactory level of computer literacy
