About Department
The Barbara Walker Centre for Pain Management (BWCPM) is located at St Vincent's Hospital Fitzroy, and is predominantly an ambulatory (outpatient) inter-disciplinary service that provides assessment, treatment and consultation for patients with persistent pain. The service comprises specialist pain clinicians (Pain Medicine Physicians, Pain Medicine trainees, Psychiatrist, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Allied Health Assistant and Research Assistant) working as an integrated team to address the medical, physical and psycho-social factors contributing to the persistence of pain and its consequent disability. The clinic services a diverse group of clients from around Victoria, many with complex needs, offering treatment both individually and in groups. BWCPM delivers services to public, private and compensable patients (Transport Accident Commission & Worksafe).

About the Role

The Staff Medical Specialist provides professional assessment and treatment to clients attending the Barbara Walker centre of Pain Management and referred inpatients.

You should be as a Pain Medicine Physician to support the current Pain Medicine Physicians in the department. Additional experience complementary to existing specialities would be ideal. In addition to the provision of patient care, you will be involve in teaching, training and may include undertaking approved research.

Classifications for this position will range from Specialist Year 1 to Yr 9 (HN18 - HN58).

Duties

  • You are responsible for outpatient clients referred to BWCPM by providing evidence based comprehensive assessment of patients with persistent pain, making a key contribution to diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment in an inter-disciplinary environment.
  • You will also, at times, liaise with Acute Pain Unit of St Vincent's regarding inpatient care. In conjunction with the Pain Fellow to provide inpatient liaison service.
  • You will assist in the supervision and training of pain medicine trainees and other health professionals working within BWCPM.
  • You will Participate in the development and ongoing quality improvement of programs and services


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Faculty of Pain Medicine qualification - Specialist Pain Medicine Physician FFPMANZCA
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Additional experience complementary to existing specialities would be ideal.
