The Centre for the Business and Economics of Health

The Centre for the Business and Economics of Health (CBEH) was established in 2016 as a University Centre as the result of a joint initiative of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (BEL), the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences (HaBS), made possible by a generous donation of a Chair by the Taylor Family. CBEH provides a high-profile vehicle for health policy leadership, debate, engagement and analysis on all aspects of the business and economics of health. About This Opportunity

Funded by an Australian Research Council Grant entitled Child Dental Benefit Policies and the Health of Australian Children, this position will involve conducting economic research on child dental health and the effect of public policy, along with other factors, on dental services use and the impact of dental services on indicators of oral health in children and adolescents.

Supporting the research program in economics and child dental health, you will be conducting research and publish scholarly articles in high quality outlets in conjunction with working alongside colleagues and postgraduates in the development of joint research projects. You will assist with the preparation of material for presentations at seminars and conferences on research outcomes in addition to developing submissions for competitive research tenders and grant proposals.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

Ideally you will hold a PhD (completed or under examination) in econometrics, economics, health economics, or a relevant field in applied microeconomics. Demonstrated expert knowledge in the area of economics or econometrics in addition to prior experience in conducting and analysing qualitative research is essential to the role. With your innate ability to establish effect relationships, you will represent and promote academic discipline at a university and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies.

Evidence of a contribution to research, such as peer-reviewed publications and an ability to make independent and original contributions to research which have a significant impact on the scholarly community is integral to the role. You should demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and demonstrate experience in liaising and collaborating with external agencies to develop co-operative research initiatives.

Visa sponsorship may be available for existing visa holders that are currently located in Australia and may require sponsorship for this appointment.
