About Mackay Northern Beaches State High School

Mackay Northern Beaches State High School is located 10km from the centre of Mackay in the growing Northern Beaches area of Mackay. The school opened its doors in January 2013 with Year 7 and 8 students. Each year the school continued to grow, as subsequent year levels were added. In 2017, the school reached maturity, as our foundation Year 8's became the inaugural Year 12 cohort.

Your Role

The school is seeking a dedicated Head of Department to join the progressive Leadership team. This Middle School Head of Department position will be suited to an energetic and future-focused individual who has the ability to continue to provide an innovative and relevant approach to devleopment of middle school learners. Their practice needs to have a strong student-focused approach and ability to build strong professional relationships with students, teachers, parents and the community . As the Head of Department, Middle School, you will play a vital role in developing solid strategic practices for managing resources to achieve positive student learning outcomes.

As the Head of Department you will have responsibility for the following:

  • Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
  • Be futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
  • Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the school department to achieve goals.

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
  • Teachers working in Education and Care Services (including State Delivered Kindergarten programs) require an exemption card issued by Blue Card Services.
