The Workforce and Engagement Division is responsible for frontline stakeholder engagement across all levels of government and is increasingly focused on collaborative development of industry workforce strategies and meeting the recruitment needs of employers, particularly small businesses. The division uses its unique position within each state and territory, its relationships and the intelligence it gains to inform strategic, evidence-based responses to labour market needs and to advance government priorities.

In order to foster a productive and competitive labour market, the division has developed collaborative working relationships with program providers, employers and industry associations as well as strategic relationships with other key stakeholders, including Commonwealth, state/territory and local government organisations. The division has offices in all Australian capital cities and a number of regional locations.

Queensland State Office overview
Queensland State office currently operates from office locations in Brisbane, Rockhampton, and Townsville. The State Office operates in a dynamic environment and pursues place-based strategies to deliver outcomes for all department objectives.

The office also works closely with a range of stakeholders in the context of engagement activities and initiatives, such as small business expos and jobs fairs, designed to promote the assistance available to job seekers and employers and to identify new opportunities and innovative solutions to assist people into work.

The office manages the frontline delivery of the department’s employment, skills and small business initiatives. We actively engage with key stakeholders to improve industry, employer and job seeker awareness, and uptake of our programs. Key functions across the office include stakeholder engagement, contract management, resource and people management, policy implementation and review, and local labour market intelligence gathering.

Skills and employment programs currently managed include: Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN), Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements (BAC), Skills for Education and Employment (SEE), jobactive, the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS), Transition to Work (TtW) , ParentsNext, Harvest Trail Services (HTS), Time to Work Employment Services (TWES), Entrepreneurship Facilitators, Employability Skills Training (EST), and Local Jobs Program (LJP).

Position overview
To be successful in this role, you will perform a range of strategic and operational functions within a team and in collaboration with your State, Division and National Office colleagues. You will perform a variety of tasks that support the Queensland State Office’s Skills and Employment teams and programs.

As an APS 5 officer, you will:

  • Maximise the effectiveness of employment and skills programs, and other department initiatives across Queensland. This includes engaging with stakeholders to facilitate projects and linking them with contracted service providers and other labour market intermediaries
  • Manage the performance and compliance of contracted service providers for various programs in accordance with contractual and legislative frameworks
  • Investigate and manage complex issues regarding frontline service delivery and provider operations under limited direction
  • Supervise and build individual’s capacity through coaching and performance feedback.
  • Actively participate in planning, project management, decision-making and solution brokering, as required
  • Provide support to our Ministers, and the department’s National Office teams, as required.
