The Queensland State Office comprises of two primary office locations in Brisbane and Townsville, and some staff based in Rockhampton. The Townsville Regional Office manages staff based in Townsville and Rockhampton.

The Townsville Regional Office plays a strategic role as part of the department’s State and Regional network, which includes implementing localised interventions and solutions under the wider Delivery and Employer Engagement Division’s agenda.

The Townsville Regional Office also performs a key role in managing the delivery of several employment services and programs to assist job seekers and employers throughout regional Queensland. These include jobactive, the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme, Transition to Work, ParentsNext, Harvest Labour, Career Transition Assistance and Employability Skills Training services, and the Yarrabah Employment Services Pilot Program.

The Position

The Department of Employment, Skills, Small, and Family Business is seeking an experienced and innovative person for the position of Executive Level 1, Team Leader for the Townsville region. The successful applicant will have leadership responsibility for staff in Townsville and Rockhampton.

The position will involve liaising with external stakeholders, including, Indigenous organisations, employers and peak organisations, and facilitation of projects supporting the work of contracted service providers and other labour market intermediaries.

The successful applicant will be based in Townsville.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership to staff in an evolving business environment and to build team capabilities to meet current and future business needs
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and to work across boundaries to achieve positive outcomes particularly on Indigenous matters
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a range of strategic and operational issues across a large geographical area simultaneously, and resolve complex and sensitive issues effectively
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to provide clear and accurate advice to stakeholders ie service providers, colleagues, and managers
  • Initiative, flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the work of the Delivery and Employer Engagement Division and the department more broadly
  • The ability to travel, including overnight travel
